Freshwater Competence Centre
The Freshwater Competence Centre is a consortium formed by the University of Turku, University of Oulu, the Finnish Environment Institute, Aalto University, University of Easter Finland, and Finnish Geospatial Research Institute besides several private companies. The Freshwater Competence Centre gathers the highest competence in hydrological and geospatial research, development, and infrastructure in Finland. Currently, it is funded by the Academy of Finland through three projects: The Hydro-RDI Network, Hydro-RI Platform, and the Green-Digi-Basin. Education, Infrastructure, Research, Development, and Innovation within Freshwater Competence Centre is shared among all partners.
We have currently three supersites in different parts of Finland, ranging from North to South. We conduct research, take regular monitoring measurements and perform equipment and sensor tests in these sites, using our Hydro Research Infrastructure. We are also aiming to build digital twins of these supersites. Read more about our work with digital twins of river basins in this article.
